Pass It Around

What would happen if a group of high school slackers grew up and became the faculty at their own high school? Austin High is an irreverent comedy that finally answers that age-old question. Fueled by the threat of a citywide crackdown on anything the gentrification kings deem "weird," the story follows the adventures of the staff of Austin High, and then travels far outside the school walls to chronicle a collection of very colorful characters around Austin.

Austin High Premiere 3/10 THE SURVIVAL GUIDE

1) BE EARLY.  Unlike regular movies, there won’t be 20 mins of previews… we have to start the movie *right at* 7pm and 9:30 pm.  Both screenings are sold out and every seat will be used (with a few key crew members standing in the back!?)  The 7pm will be seated at 6:15 and the 9:30 will be seated at 9.  The movie is 98 minutes long, and there will be a very special and quick intro and Q&A after each.  For those coming from out of town who are new to the fantastic Alamo Drafthouse, they serve a full menu of food and drink before and during the movie.

2) If you or your guests CAN’T make it, PLEASE Tell Us (kristinavallejo@gmail.com)... there are people involved with the film who waited too long to RSVP and are now wait listed who would love a chance at any unused tickets, but we need to tell them ahead of time.  We’ll refund any tix you paid for through PayPal if you give us notice.

3) DRESS?  A lot of people have asked if we are glammin it up for the big night.  The answer is yes and no… it’s Austin, but we are talking about a big time Green Carpet premiere, complete with lots of photo ops for the paparazzi.  (not to mention the Greens’ Dirty, DIrty, Dirty Photobooth at the after party) My guess is you’ll see everything from evening gowns to underoos.  Just be sure you are dressed to laugh your asses off and help us cross the finish line of an 18 month long project, and then make DAMNED SURE you have your dancin shoes on for…

4) THE AFTER PARTY(s)… The most glamorous Highball is right next door (that’s right, out of towners, you only park once, and never downtown) will be hosting our crew from 9pm to 2pm.  The after party is open to the public, so feel free to invite your friends who didn’t get tickets!

The early show folks will enjoy the Johnny Cash-esque stylings of Dale Watson til 11pm, and then Soul Track Mind will be bringing their world-famous 60’s/70’s funk to make sure we never stop moving for the rest of the night.  They’ll go on at 11:30, right when the folks from the later screening are coming over.  The Highball has great food if you didn’t get stuffed at Alamo and check out these drink specials for the night:

Local Texas pints: $2.50
Lone Stars $2
The Austin High 420 (42 Below Vodka with a mixer): $3

$4 LOCAL SPIRITS
Graham’s Texas Tea
Enchanted Rock Vodka
Treaty Oak Platinum Rum

5) AGES for the after party:  Since we had some teens involved with the film (and one 3 year old), we’ve worked out some special circumstance allowances with The Highball.  Folks under 18 will be allowed in til 10pm (hey, it’s a school night anyway).  Those 18-21 will be allowed to stay after 10, provided their hands are clearly marked with a big X… please play along with this guys… they normally don’t let anyone under 21 stay in the place after 10pm.

AND FINALLY… we will have very limited edition Austin High T’s (American Apparel) and souvenir premiere posters for sale at The Highball after the shows.  We are selling them at just a little above cost to pay for doing the art… we just wanted you guys to have them.  (OK and us).  The American Apparel T’s will be $15 and the posters $5.  Please bring CASH for these if you want them… and you know you will.

That’s it!!!  Thanks for reading and we can’t wait to see you there.

AH Update: “Almost Finished” Party!

A mitzvah is in order today because Alan Deutsch, director of Austin High is currently en route to the lovely city of Austin, Texas!  During his stay, he’ll be getting some long overdue pickup shots, and have a little brainstorming  sesh with the masterminds that make up the AH editorial department.  The movie is shaping up more and more day b’day- all that remains is a little sound mixing love, CGI for the smoke monster scenes, and final music.  Oh, and did we mention Les Claypool from of the legendary band, Primus will be contributing music for the film?  Bass solo!

As the funky riff plays in the background, mark your calendars for this Thursday, Nov. 18 because Austin High is throwing another party, and YOU’RE INVITED.  We’re celebrating being oh-so-almost-done with the film by GETTING COMPLETELY FUNK’D at Victory Grill, the iconic East Austin venue.

Join us at 9PM.  And bring some donatable beer cash.  Here’s the official party desciption:

Gone Off Deep Productions brings you a monthly soul-enriching event at the home of funk, soul, and the blues in Austin since 1945. There will be a suggested donation at the door and free drinks all night while you move to the grooves of various Austin bands, including the Nov 18 headliner, Soul Track Mind.

Yes- SOUL TRACK MIND.  They headlined our last party, and blew the fucking roof off.  Litsen to them now

And if that doesn’t sound cool enough, the party is going to be crashed by hundreds of easy riders from the ATX Social Cycling club.  If you’ve never partied with those rockstars before, then get ready.  Don’t wait- RSVP to the party now via facebook:

See you Thursday!

Kickstarter - Initial Goal Achieved!

We have reached our initial goal of $10,000! The cast and crew of “Austin High” thank you dearly for your contributions.  But don’t fret just because our goal was met—continuing donations are very welcome.  Rest assured that every dollar over our initial goal will go to covering any unforeseen costs, and keeping our little production alive!

Now that principal photography has ended, we turn our attention to the very important post-production phase. This phase is generally more lengthy and costly than the actual shoot. It requires a small army of talented individual responsible for editing, design, mixing, effects, and clearances. And we have one hell of an army.

In addition to post processes, the soundtrack will benefit greatly from an added chunk of change.  Which is of great importance to a movie like this…a movie about the soul of a city, revered around the world for its great music.

Our project will be active on the Kickstarter site for almost a month, and we are asking for your continued support. If you haven’t yet donated, please do – Amazon will not charge your card until our deadline, August 8.

If you have pledged a donation, please pass on this link:

Tweet it, blog it, Facebook it, link it in, or do whatever it is you do to e-communicate with techno-friends.

We can’t wait to share with you the joy, pride, and sense of accomplishment when we screen this film that you helped make happen!

Sent with love and gratitude,
The Austin High Crew
